Integrating Air Traffic in Cities

The integration of air traffic in our cities is not a new ambition. We have envisioned the possible impacts this could have on the urban fabric for a century.

As technology has advanced, and we have transitioned from airships to airplanes, drones to eVTOLS, this ambition has become reality. With the rise of new technology we are forced to rethink how we allocate space in the Netherlands for innovative aviation.

The integration of innovative aviation introduces new spatial, legal, and ethical challenges that call for a coordinated approach.

Our research focuses on the lower airspace, an area where conventional air traffic generally does not operate, and where the difficulties of an integration will be most apparent.

By analyzing five phases of flight, five usage areas of innovative aviation, five spatial impacts, and five drone types, we develop a comprehensive framework for addressing these challenges.
